Dragons always start getting a lot of bad press as St George’s Day approaches and for one group of people, who believed dragons weren’t such a bad lot after all, had decided to do something to rebel against the annual celebration of one of their favourite mythological creatures being slain! This may seem like an odd premise for a party, but here at Hog Roast Sparkhill, we have catered for all manner of weird and wonderful celebrations, so when we were called by sword and sorcery enthusiast Tom, we didn’t bat an eyelid! Our eyelids remained equally unmoved when Tom explained he wanted a hearty medieval-style hog roast feast for him and his fellow fantasy loving chums, all of whom would be dressed as their favourite dragon from film, literature or mythology! Although we have a very modern approach to our menus and event catering, hog roasting is one of the most traditional cooking methods around, so we couldn’t wait to get back to our roots and impress our diners with our ability to breathe new life into this time-honoured way of roasting meat!
After spending the day preparing everything from scratch in the marquee Tom had hired for the event, the medieval feast was ready for the dragon fans! Whilst many people love our more alternative-style dishes, Tom had wanted traditional all the way to fit with the theme of the evening. He opted for a classic hog roast with all the trimmings and seasonal, locally-produced vegetables on the side, all of which would be washed down with several tankards of ale! The dragon die-hards had made a massive effort with their costumes and we marvelled at their creativity as we served up the medieval banquet. Tom had even hired a fire-eater for the evening to add a spark of authenticity to the affair, which was a very impressive spectacle to behold! There was no scorched meat or sudden flames emanating from the Hog Roast Sparkhill camp though, as our pork had been cooked slowly and delicately throughout the day, to achieve a melt in the mouth tenderness. The alternative evening was great fun and Hog Roast Sparkhill’s traditional feast fitted the theme like a glove. Thanks for a great night everyone and we hope you didn’t run into St George on the way home!
