A retirement party can feel bittersweet, with feelings of nostalgia but also the anticipation of creating new memories. It’s the closing of one chapter and the beginning of another. For our hosts it was an evening filled with laughter, a few nostalgic stories and of course, delicious food bringing everyone together. That was the case on the 25th of April, when we had the pleasure of catering for a retirement celebration, serving up a feast for 80 guests at Berkswell Reading Room and what a night it turned out to be.
Colleagues, friends and family gathered to celebrate years of hard work and dedication, sharing memories and raising a glass to the future for our guest of honour. Events like this are exactly why our team at Hog Roast Berkswell thrive, it’s not just about serving food, it’s about being part of life’s big moments.
With 80 guests to cater for, the menu needed to be both impressive and flexible which our experienced team delivered on the evening of the event. We started the event off with a selection of tempting starters that got everyone talking. The Scottish smoked salmon, served with cracked black pepper, lemon and dill, offered a light and elegant option. Alongside it, was something a little different, our roasted duck wraps, with their crispy beansprouts, garlic, ginger, and a sweet chilli dip. These options added a rich and flavourful twist. For those who love a classic, the tomato bruschetta brought a fresh, vibrant taste of summer to the table.
As the evening moved on, it was time for the crowd pleaser and this is where Hog Roast Berkswell really shines. Our whole roasted pig, pre-shredded for convenience before arrival, meant that the main course was ready to serve straight away, making sure guests didn’t have to wait to dig in. Tender pork paired with crisp crackling is always a winning combination, especially when served with traditional favourites such as sage and onion stuffing and a generous helping of apple sauce. To make sure everyone could enjoy their meal exactly how they liked it, we provided a selection of bread rolls and wraps, including gluten-free options on request. Guests could build their perfect plate, whether they wanted a hearty roll packed with pork or a lighter wrap filled with fresh flavours.
Of course, no meal is complete without sides and this feast had the perfect balance. A seasonal green leaf salad as well as potato salad. We’re always proud to offer inclusive menu options, and this event was no exception. Our homemade vegetarian and vegan dishes were carefully prepared and just as popular as the meat options. The grilled vegetable and halloumi skewers were flavourful and could be paired with wraps, tzatziki and a sweet chilli sauce. Meanwhile, the vegan pulled jackfruit, served in a bun with smoky hickory BBQ sauce, proved to be a real crowd-pleaser, so much so that even some meat-eaters were tempted to give it a try.
Everything was served on wooden disposable crockery with matching cutlery, keeping things eco-friendly and relaxed. It meant guests could focus on what mattered, celebrating, reminiscing and enjoying the evening with their favourite people. What stood out most about this retirement party was the atmosphere. We loved hearing stories being shared, laughter echoing around the venue and that sense of appreciation for years gone by.
