With the Olympic Torch continuing its relay of the country, we here at Spitting Pig were honoured to cater for its arrival and departure in Nottingham. With the eternal flame making its iconic relay route around the country, before signalling the start of the games in London, the honour to cater for the torchbearers and Olympic Torch team was unbelievable.
As the crowds gathered on the street of Nottingham, witnessing the Torches arrival into the city, the crowd’s encouragement and determination of the torchbearers, giving them the spurring force they needed to push on, knowing how grateful it was that they had been chosen. With the torch working its way through Nottingham, the crowds were getting bigger with every torchbearer, the anticipation building until the lighting of the cauldron during the nights celebrations.
With all eyes on the torchbearers, the crowds look on in wonder as the torch was pasted along. As the penultimate torchbearer closed their leg of the relay, to the crowds surprise Olympic gold medallists and Dancing on Ice stars Jane Torvill and Christopher Dean were the final torchbearers, carrying the torch through Nottingham Ice Centre during a specially choreographed routine before the evening’s celebrations. Witnessing the 1984 Winter Olympic gold medallists is it itself priceless, and being given the privilege to hog roast for the crowds, torchbearers, and Torvill and Dean is an amazing opportunity.
With crowds being feed only the freshest quality and locally sourced meat, we ensured our hog roast was cooked to perfection, for the celebrations taking place in the evening, as the crowds from all legs of the Nottingham stretch had congregated to witness the lighting of the cauldron. With our hog roast going down a treat with the crowds, this was a job we were proud to have accepted. With the torch setting off out of Nottingham the next morning, we were also given the opportunity to hog roast during the lunchtime period of the days relay.
