Here at Hog Roast Halesowen, we love being involved in events for a good cause and rewarding generous people who work hard to raise money for charity with some great food! The most recent event of this type we catered for was a sponsored swim to raise money for an animal charity whose team of dedicated staff and volunteers work tirelessly to protect the health and habitats of the local wildlife population. Given the nature of the charity, this sponsored swim wasn’t taking place at an indoor swimming pool, it was taking place in the local lake that a lot of the charity’s time and money is focused on!
So, the Hog Roast Halesowen team found ourselves lakeside, preparing hearty slow-roasted pork sandwiches for the hardy participants and all of their sponsors who had come to cheer them on! It was more a test of endurance than speed, with no time limit on reaching the end. The 50 participants looked focused and determined as the starting whistle blew and with no hesitation whatsoever, they all launched themselves into the lake to begin the gruelling swim, encouraged by the thought of the succulent sandwich that would be waiting for them at the finish line!
The meat was ready to be carved as the first of the swimmers neared the end, still going strong and they were met with rapturous applause as they emerged victoriously from the water! They were all more focused on our serving table than they were on the crowd that were waiting to congratulate them though and with newfound, strength, advanced rapidly towards the Hog Roast Halesowen camp! As one by one every swimmer made it safely back to shore they were greeted by us with a delicious pork and cracking sandwich for their efforts!
The lake swim was a huge success, swimmers and sponsors alike all loved the food and everyone went home feeling happy that they had done their bit for local wildlife. The event organisers also greatly appreciated the fact that we did our bit for the local animal population too by being our usual scrupulous selves with our post-meal clean up and taking every speck of rubbish with us when we left!
